Dewch i chwythu eich corn!

YN DILYN llwyddiant cyfres Band Cymru 2014, mae S4C yn falch o gyhoeddi Band Cymru 2016 a chystadleuaeth newydd, Band Ieuenctid Cymru. Cystadleuaethau i fandiau chwyth, pres a jazz yw Band Cymru a Band Ieuenctid Cymru. Mae Band Ieuenctid Cymru yn addas i bobl 18 oed ac o dan ar 31.08.16.

Dyma gyfle unigryw i fandiau Cymru ddangos eu doniau disglair ar y teledu gyda gwobr o £10,000 i enillydd Band Cymru a £1,000 i enillydd y categori ieuenctid.

Rhaid i bob band gael isafswm o 12 offeryn chwyth neu bres ac uchafswm o 5 person yn chwarae offeryn nad sy’n offeryn chwyth neu bres. Ni chaniateir mwy na 35 aelod mewn unrhyw fand.

Meddai Elen Rhys, Comisiynydd Cynnwys Adloniant S4C, “Yn sicr fe gydiodd cystadleuaeth Band Cymru 2014 yn nychymyg y gynulleidfa sy’n profi nad gwlad y gân yn unig yw Cymru ond hefyd gwlad yr offerynwyr. Mae S4C yn hynod falch o gael ymestyn y gystadleuaeth y tro hwn i gynnwys rownd derfynol byw a chystadleuaeth newydd sbon i fandiau ieuenctid Cymru. Byddwn yn dathlu synau’r seindorf mewn cystadleuaeth sydd â’r addewid i fod yn un gyffrous tu hwnt.”

Yn dilyn cyfres o glyweliadau sain ar gyfer cystadleuaeth Band Cymru 2016, gwahoddir 12 band i ymddangos yng Nghanolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth ar benwythnos 9-10 Ebrill 2016. Bydd y 12 band sydd yn mynd ymlaen i’r rowndiau terfynol yn derbyn gwobr o £500.

Bydd y 12 band yn cael eu rhannu i bedwar grŵp ar gyfer pedair rhaglen deledu, a bydd enillydd ar ddiwedd pob rhaglen. Fe fydd y rownd derfynol yn cael ei chynnal yn Theatr y Parc a’r Dar, Treorci ar ddydd Sul, 22 Mai 2016 ac fe fydd y pedwar band yn derbyn £500 ychwanegol. Bydd enillydd teitl Band Cymru 2016 yn derbyn gwobr bellach o £9,000.

Yn dilyn cyfres o glyweliadau ar gyfer cystadleuaeth Band Ieuenctid Cymru 2016, gwahoddir pedwar band i ymddangos yn Theatr y Parc a’r Dar, Treorci ar ddydd Sadwrn, 21 Mai 2016. Mae pob band ieuenctid sy’n cyrraedd y rownd derfynol yn derbyn £250.

Rhoddir £1,000 i’r band ieuenctid sydd yn ennill y gystadleuaeth.

Dyddiad cau’r ddwy gystadleuaeth yw 12 Hydref 2015. Gwahoddir ceisiadau oddi wrth fandiau sy’n deillio o Gymru, ond ni chaniateir i enillydd Band Cymru 2014 gystadlu yng nghystadleuaeth 2016.

Yn ystod rowndiau cynderfynol Band Cymru 2016, fe fydd gwobr o £500 i’r unawdydd gorau fydd wedi’i ddewis gan y beirniaid.

Workshop held on Ceredigion’s economic future



A WORKSHOP was held for Elected Members on Thursday, March 8, to discuss Ceredigion’s Economic Future bringing together some of the county’s biggest organisations to share what they had to offer and what partnership working could look like in the future.

With an introduction and background to Growing Mid Wales by Chief Executive of Ceredigion County Council, Eifion Evans, Ceredigion’s Economic Future Members Workshop proceeded to discuss partnership working with the organisations. Aberystwyth University, Qinetiq Group PLC, West Wales Airport Ltd, Thales Group and Volac International Ltd were in attendance talking about future investment opportunities and outlining significant plans in the county for growth.

Councillor Ellen ap Gwynn, Chair of the Growing Mid Wales Partnership and Ceredigion County Council Leader, said: “Holding this workshop and working together with some of the county’s organisations shows the strong position that we are in to develop. I’m looking forward to seeing the exciting developments of Growing Mid Wales in the coming years and particularly so in terms of longer term prospects. The workshop was very important for Members in making them aware of these opportunities and the session was welcomed by all who attended.”

Significant opportunities were recognised as the Mid Wales region starts to develop its response to the Government on the possibilities for a Growth Deal.

Council services returning to normal



WITH the snow and ice thawing across Ceredigion, Council services are returning to normal after wintry weather, but weather conditions continue to affect some services.

Council workers have recently spread 1,560 tons of grit on the roads and have carried out seven continuous 12 hour shifts. Council vehicles responding to the wintry weather have travelled approximately 10,100 miles. The B4343 has now reopened.

All waste collection teams were deployed today (5 March), however access issues in some locations may impact on the ability to provide a full service. Information on any waste service disruption can be found at or by contacting 01545 572 572.

The Council’s Household Waste sites have reopened. It is likely all waste services will be functioning as usual during the first half of the week.

Councillor Ray Quant MBE, the Cabinet member responsible for Technical Services said, “Council staff have been out in all conditions and every hour throughout the day and night to keep Ceredigion residents safe. The outstanding teamwork and dedication shown during the adverse weather situation is to be highly commended and I’m sure everyone is very grateful for their work. It’s also important to keep in mind that the planning work that was carried out before the weather hit Ceredigion has allowed staff to prioritise and uses resources effectively for maximum impact.”

Ysgol Bro Teifi remains closed today due to water supply disruption. Pupils and staff from Rhos-y-wlad Campus, Ysgol Rhoshelyg will transfer to Llangeitho Campus for a few days due to water leakage. Dihewyd School and Canolfan Aeron sent pupils home due to water supply disruption. Every other school in Ceredigion has reopened after being closed on Thursday and Friday (01 and 02 March 2018) due to wintry weather.

Christmas Card Competition



The Ceredigion Herald Christmas Card competition is open to pupils aged up to age 11 and attends a school within Ceredigion.

  • The design must be on a piece of A5 paper, either landscape or portrait
  • Only pencils or felt tip pens are to be used.
  • Computer generated work is also acceptable.
  • Materials including glue, glitter or cotton wool should not be used.
  • Please write the pupil’s name, age and school on the back of their picture.

Prize: 100 Christmas Cards (Inc Envelopes) of your design for you to send to friends and family. Also you will receive a Christmas party for up to 50 guests which will include Bouncy Castle, Disco, Ice Cream Van as well as a visit from Santa with a gift for each guest.

To Enter: Please send entries by email to and include (Ceredigion Herald Card Comp in the subject line or by post to The Ceredigion Herald, 11 Hamilton Terrace, Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, SA73 3AL. Entries will need to be in before Friday 24th November 2017.

In entering the competition you automatically agree to the Rules of Entry. The competition is open to children up to the age of 11 years old. The competition is only open to residents who attend Schools within Ceredigion.

Entries will be publicised in The Ceredigion Herald and online as well as the appropriate sponsor’s websites from 25th November 2017 for 7 Days, members of the public will be able to vote for their favourite.

Three finalists will be selected per area and the overall winner will be chosen by a judging panel made up of Herald Staff. The decision of the judges is final.

Entries cannot be returned and become the property of The Ceredigion Herald. Entrants transfer all of their ownership rights (including all copyright) of their designs to The Ceredigion Herald.

The Ceredigion Herald reserves the right to disqualify any entrant if they have reasonable grounds to believe the entrant has breached any of the Rules. (NB: All competitions are not open to member of staff or their immediate family)

Entries may be published within The Ceredigion Herald as well as online. The overall winner will be published within The Herald that covers your region and will also be asked to attend a winners’ presentation.

The winners will be notified after Saturday 1st December 2017. The winners’ name will be displayed on The Ceredigion Herald website and on the winning cards when printed.
