A HISTORIC Aberystwyth hotel recently botched a hygiene inspection, scoring the lowest possible rating.
The Belle Vue Royal Hotel, which offers a ’warm Welsh welcome’ on its website and has been holding court on Aberystwyth’s promenade since the early 19th century, was handed zero food hygiene out of a possible five.
A Zero rating urges establishments to make ’urgent improvements’ to the management of food safety and The Belle Vue Royal Hotel, owned by businessman Vince Morgans now requires ’major improvement’ to hygienic food handling.
The inspection, carried out on March 6, checks whether food that is sold is safe and questions staff about food safety.
The hygienic handling of food, including preparation, cooking, reheating, cooling and storage, was also assessed as needing major improvement.
The Belle Vue claims to offer ’exceptional food made from the best of the world class produce that is produced and grown on our doorstep’ on its publicity literature.
The condition of facilities and the building as a whole was classed as being generally satisfactory, however.
The hotel kitchen is currently undergoing a refurbishment and rooms are offered on a bed and breakfast basis only.
