Museum calls for seaside holiday photographs for a new exhibition

Published

on

CEREDIGION MUSEUM is looking for your seaside holiday photographs to take part in a new exhibition celebrating the nation’s relationship with the seaside.

Do you like to be beside the seaside? Do you like to stroll along the prom? Surf the waves, ride a donkey, eat ice-cream and negotiate a deck chair? Were you a bathing beauty or a knobbly knees winner?

With the summer holidays around the corner, Ceredigion museum will be welcoming visitors through its doors to a 2018 Year of the Sea exhibition celebrating the story of the county’s seaside heritage, with objects selected from the museum collection.

Before the advent of affordable package holidays abroad, the promise of sun and sand meant a trip to the seaside. The Museum hopes that the exhibition will generate nostalgia and remind visitors of their own memories of the seaside holiday.

Andrea DeRome, Collections Access Officer at Ceredigion Museum said: “We need your photographs of trips to the seaside to form an integral part of the exhibition. We look forward to hearing from you.”

If you feel that you’d like to take part, contact Andrea DeRome, andread@ceredigion.gov.uk, or phone the museum on 01970 633088.

Making a Splash opens on Saturday, July 14 and runs until Saturday, October 13.

Storm Helene could bring 70mph winds

Published

WINDS of up to 70mph could batter the county on Monday and Tuesday (Sept 17-18) with a yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office.

Storm Helene is set to arrive on Monday evening at around 6pm and last until Tuesday at around 8am.

Operational Meteorologist for the Met Office Martin Bowles said: “An issue is that trees are in full leaf and so are more likely to be blown over in strong winds than they would be in the middle of winter.

“That could be a problem.

“The storm will head straight up through the Irish Sea and across the North of England on Monday night, bringing some heavy rain and some strong winds.

“We have updated some areas to a yellow warning.”

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and take extra care on the roads.
