GOOD SAMARITANS across the county could be in with the chance of getting paid to help many charities as the Nicest Job in Britain (NJIB) campaign re-launches for its second year.
The Nicest Job in Britain is a charity campaign led by NicestJobs.com – an employer brand showcase platform for the charity sector – and sponsored by online auction platform Givergy.
The Job will see one lucky winner travel the country and help 40 charities over the course of a year; working both on the ground as a volunteer and in their head offices on charity campaigns.
The second year of the campaign kicks off with a global hunt to find the successor to 27-year-old kindness campaigner Luke Cameron from Cheltenham, who was dubbed the ‘Nicest Man in Britain’ by the Daily Mail. Luke was NJIB’s first ever National Philanthropy Manager and is now leading the search for his replacement.
The successful applicant will take up the role of National Philanthropy Manager for NicestJobs.com and will be paid a salary of £30,000. But the real benefit of the role is having the opportunity to travel the country to help 40 different charities; from animal rescue to children’s hospices.
In order to apply, participants should record a 60-second video showcasing why they’re the best person for the job, then visit www.nicestjobinbritain. co.uk to submit their application before September 16.

The primary sponsor of this year’s campaign is Givergy – an award-winning company which offers a range of cutting-edge technology platforms to help charities raise more at fundraising events and online. The company helped raise over £25 million for more than 1,200 incredible charitable causes in 2015 alone.
Last year’s winner, Luke Cameron, who completed his 45 charity visits in 2015 has now turned his attention to finding his successor for the Nicest Job in Britain. He says: “Being the National Philanthropy Manager changed my life – being able to visit and work with so many amazing charities across the space of the year was more than I could have ever imagined.”

Directory of services launched by Ceredigion’s Carers Unit as part of Carers Rights Day
WHETHER you are a new carer or have been caring for someone for a while, it’s important that you understand your rights and you’re able to access the support that is available to you as soon as you need it. Wherever you are in your caring journey.
It is more important than ever that Carers look after their own health and wellbeing as well as the people they care for. This year for Carers Rights Day, Ceredigion Carers Unit and our partners wanted to ensure Carers have the information and the knowledge that they need at their fingertips, so they can feel confident asking for what they need.
Ceredigion Carers Unit and partners have brought together a Bumper Edition of the Winter Carers Magazine. It’s a ‘Carers Rights Day Directory of services’ bursting with useful information and advice on your rights, including, where to get help and support in West Wales.
There is also a free Carers programme of talks & short training sessions online (also with access by telephone). This programme runs right through until end of March 2021.
Being a carer can take its toll on your wellbeing. Following a recent Carers UK survey, 78% of Carers in Wales said that they have been unable to take any, or a sufficient, breaks from their caring role since the outbreak of COVID-19. As a result of this, surveyed Carers also reported that their health and wellbeing had been affected, with 66% reporting that their mental health had worsened due to the pandemic.
Councillor Catherine Hughes, Carers Champion for Ceredigion County Council, said: “The magazine and the programme of talks & short courses appeals to a huge variety of unpaid Carers. There is something in there for parent Carers, dementia Carers, young Carers, those caring for someone affected by mental health or substance misuse issues and everything in between. And relevant to those caring for people of all ages. If you know of anyone with caring responsibilities who would benefit from this magazine or the free advice sessions, please pass it on.”

These are challenging times. Reaching out for support when you need it is a form of self-care and it boosts your resilience. It takes a strong person to carry on caring – it takes a stronger, more resilient person to reach out to others.”

Development of Ceredigion’s first Wellbeing Hub approved
THE PROPOSAL to develop a Wellbeing Centre in Lampeter was approved at a Cabinet meeting on 01 December 2020.
As part of its commitment to form an Adult Wellbeing Program, Ceredigion County Council intends to establish Wellbeing Hubs in North, Mid and South Ceredigion as well as pop-up provision in other locations in the County. Each Wellbeing Hub (area) will host a ‘Wellbeing Centre’ – a facility that enhances its core offer of Leisure provision with areas for meeting, consultation and treatment to contribute to improving the physical, mental and social well-being of the County’s residents.
Councillor Catherine Hughes said, “It is clear that residents’ support needs are changing and the Wellbeing Centre should be able to offer assistance and provide services to ensure that they respond to need and offer support to a wide range of support for people of all ages. It’s great to see this positive first step for the residents of mid Ceredigion.”
The Wellbeing Centre development concept will be presented to the Corporate Project Management Board and Development Group to ensure that it follows the agreed protocols for a project of this status. Ceredigion County Council intends to develop further Wellbeing Centres in the North and South of the County. The learning through the creation of the first Centre in Lampeter will influence the other Centres and implement the program in the future.
The Wellbeing Hub in Lampeter is being developed with the help of a grant from the Welsh Government.
In approving the application, this allows the Welfare Services to progress the project work on the development of the Wellbeing Centre in Lampeter.
Lampeter to have its say on £10,000 funding for community groups
Community groups in Lampeter will soon have the chance to apply for funds from a pot of £10,000
committed by Dyfed-Powys Police Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn.
The commissioner has called on groups to take advantage of funding for projects that aim to
improve safety in the area.
Mr Llywelyn has committed £140,000 for Neighbourhood Policing Teams to spend within the
communities they serve. Each team will receive £10,000, with communities themselves voting on
how the money is allocated.
Lampeter is next on the list of events – and the NPT is calling on partner organisations and people
who live or work in the town to join forces and form a community planning group to make key
Mr Llywelyn said: “I have committed to fund this new and innovative approach to community
funding as I think it’s vital that local residents have a say in how money is spent in their local area.
“They are best placed to work with the police, and indeed other partner agencies, to identify where
the money is needed and what would most benefit the local communities.
“Communities should be influencing the decisions.
“I urge the various community groups in Lampeter to consider the funding that I have made
available, and to contact the Lampeter NPT to discuss ideas, so the whole community can work
together to improve community safety.”
The planning group will attend several meetings – either socially distanced or online – over the next
few months to agree on key decisions and planning. Details will then be released on how groups can
apply for the funding, and an event will take place, giving people a chance to vote on which projects
Superintendent Ifan Charles, force lead on participatory budgeting, said: “Participatory budgeting is
a way of giving communities a greater say in how their community evolves.
“Problem solving to find long term solutions to solve the issues that cause communities the greatest
harm, is at the core of our new neighbourhood policing model.
“Through informed community engagement and problem solving, the new neighbourhood structure
should reduce the long-term harm for our communities and with that, demand on our response
officers, but this will only work if our communities and partners are equally engaged.
“Participatory budgeting has worked really well elsewhere and I’m really excited to lead the
introduction of this innovative approach here.”
